Research Assistant  – 2 posts (ref: 033)
£25,751 to £29,853

Full time, fixed-term appointments until August 2011

We are seeking to recruit two motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistants to work for the A-WOL consortium running drug screening assays to discover new chemotherapeutic agents active against Wolbachia bacterial endosymbionts of filarial nematodes.

The post holders will be based at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and will be required to work closely with other collaborators in the A-WOL consortium. You will form part of a multi-disciplinary team comprising academics, clinical researchers, postdoctoral fellows and technical staff engaged in establishing novel fundamental and translational science important for the development of drugs for filarial nematode diseases.

Applications are welcome from candidates who have a BSc in a relevant biomedical science or other relevant discipline and previous experience of cell culture, microbiology and molecular biological techniques including PCR.  With a willingness to work as an integral and co-operative member of a multi-disciplinary/multinational research team, you will have confidence to communicate at all levels and achieve research goals with limited supervision. Therefore, excellent time management and organisational skills are fundamental requirements of this role.

If you are interested in applying for this post, please send your application including a CV with a covering letter explaining your interest in, and suitability for the post, together with the names and contact details of 3 referees, quoting reference 033 and complete the online personal details form to: Lstmjobs@liv.ac.uk.

Closing date for receiving applications: 5.00pm (BST) on Monday 12th July 2010.
